The 25th Hairy Crab Invitational
Greetings all,
Firstly, I'd like to say a huge thank you to my father, Russell. If it wasn't for him inviting me along and introducing me to this incredible group of people, I wouldn't be standing here today. This week has been everything he promised it would be and more, and I'm really grateful to have been welcomed into such a fantastic tradition.
A massive thank you also to GR, Joe and Stew. The amount of time and effort that goes into organising a week like this doesn't go unnoticed. From the golf to the laughs and everything in between, you've put together an amazing event that everyone looks forward to each year, so thank you for all that you do.
To my playing partner, Marc, thanks for putting up with me all week and, more importantly, for talking me out of hitting driver on just about every hole. Looking back, that advice probably won us the tournament! It was an absolute pleasure sharing the fairways with you, and I couldn't have asked for a better teammate.
To the defending champions, Liam and Doctor Ron, thank you for your encouragement throughout the week. You set the standard both on and off the course, and it's been great getting to know you both.
I also must thank Nigel Papi and Pinhead for their determined efforts to get me drunk the night before the final round. I'm still not sure whether you were being good mates or playing some very clever mind games, but fortunately for Marc and me, it didn't quite work!
Finally, thank you to the entire field. From the moment I arrived, I was made to feel like part of the group, and that's something I'll never forget. The golf was fantastic, but it's the friendships, stories and laughs that really make this week so special.
It's been an incredible experience, and to come away with the trophy alongside Marc is something I'll always remember.
Thanks again, everyone. Have a safe trip home, and I can't wait to see you all again next year. Cheers! 🍻⛳
The field smelled trouble when Spoons Champion Marc drew big hitting Dunham Jr at the pre-tourney Calcutta. The heavy favorites opened a four shot lead in the Best Ball that was never relinquished. The pair went wire to wire to win the 24th Hairy Crab Invitational in Whistler, Canada. Jolly Founder Jim teamed with local Scotsman Jimmy gamely chasing for three days to finish 2nd. The tall boys Jeremy & Jole and Villanova Brad & Pin rounded out the money in 3rd and 4th.
Stew's step-cousin Brett teamed with alternate shot specialist Doddsie who claimed yet another Toilet Bowl purse. Swampy & Has grabbed a TB 2nd, rounding out the paying honors. Not to be outdone by his son, Dunham Sr joined Chief for a comprehensive wire to wire DFL.
Charity night saw the debut of Chairman Stew's first AI masterpiece. "Viva Las Beeva" featuring a cast of young Crustaceans, was well received. Joe's twenty plus years of auctioning Calcutta teams and charity items saw our charity total push over the $1 million dollar mark thanks to the generosity of our players, bettors, donators and buyers.
Whistler BC, the home of many a Jolly Beaver proved a stunning host. GR did the bulk of the heavy organizing for the 2nd year in a row with Joe and Stew riding herd. Thanks to Swampy on the computer, Has on the camera and Doddsie on the web in their usual support roles. Finally thanks to several bears, whose appearances kept things interesting...not so much to the crow at Nicklaus North who ate Brett's lunch. Despite the lost sausage, a good time was had by all.
